Polar Explorer turns his travel business green
Monday 8th of May 2006  |  News Source: travel mole
Polar Explorer Pen Hadow was running a travel business, and until recently wasn't stressing the Green Issues - why not? But he is now...

It's a little hard to see how you can be a Polar Explorer and not be fully aware of the Environmental Issues involved, hmm, maybe he just wasn't making a niche-marketing song-and-dance about it. But now if you book a holiday with Pen Hadow Travel you do at least have to have compulsory carbon offset, and, a little bizzarrely, you receive 20 low energy lightbulbs too...

"My business is now simply a referral service for those already determined to visit the Poles," he says in a release.

"I'm hoping that my small initiative will act as a stimulant to larger travel organisations to think hard about the environmental impact their business is creating, and start building in the environmental costs to their pricing. "

"I am all too aware that the increasing use of aeroplanes comprises one of the worst pollutants of all. But it is unrealistic to expect people to cease flying altogether, so we must tackle the problem from another angle."

All good stuff. Arguably we shouldn't be going anywhere near the poles in a plane, but if you do, make sure you do it in good company!
