Holiday Village Damned
Centre Parcs stay out of Beds
Plans for a Centre Parcs holiday village in
Bedfordshire have been rejected after a petiton of over 1000 signatures and a
flurry of letters of objection, despite the support of tourism quangoes like
Visit Britain. Local councillors on Mid Beds District Counil decided the
project was insufficiently special to be built on Green Belt land, and all
power to them: 700 Villas, a hotel and a spa would not be balanced by the two
manmade lakes and 'a nature area' proposed by Centre Parcs. Still more
amazingly, after the planning committee split 50/50, the chairman actually used
his casting vote AGAINST the proposal. Warren Wood, Millbrook, Bedfordshire,
off the motorway between Luton & Milton Keynes, will retain at least some
of its natural charm a little longer.
